As mentioned last week, the deals just keep coming! Before I get to that, let me give you a quick overview of my last two nights. Philippa and I were lucky enough to be invited to join Queen Victoria in Hobart on Tuesday. You have to take these opportunities when you can so we made the decision to accept and spend two nights cruising to Sydney. To be honest, when we lunched on her last year, I didn't get off thinking I'd love to cruise on it, to me it was just another Vista Class ship dressed up as a Cunard ship. After spending two nights on her, I've definitely changed my point of view.
The first thing you notice is the passenger to space ratio. We were thinking, "Where are all the people?!" We were advised the ship was full, all 1980 guests were on board and if that was the case, then the designers have done a great job. The ship just has a nice country club feel about it. The food and service are great and the drinks are not that expensive, well I didn't think so, but everything you pay for on board is in USD. We had a tour of the galley by the Executive Chef which was very interesting; how they manage it is just amazing. He said they were taking delivery of fresh Barramundi and Flathead in Sydney so not only do they take on stores from the USA, the Excetutive Chef has the authority to buy fresh produce from each port if he feels the need. There are pictures of Philippa and I with him along with some other Galley photos, and a couple of the Princess and Queens Grill restaurants. We ate in the Todd English restaurant one night and although is has a USD $30.00 cover charge, it's well worth it. The food was just amazing.
Click to see full-size image... The English Pub on board is fantastic with an amazing Jazz band and some good English pub tucker. We had bangers and mash and fish and chips with mushy peas for lunch ! I spent a lot of time in the Royal Spa area which incurs a small fee, but well worth it. It has heated tiled beds, I fell asleep each time I layed on it. They also look out to sea through huge glass windows, very relaxing. There's also three steam rooms and a heated plunge pool with high pressure water fountains which you can massage your head, neck and shoulders on! If any of you are familiar with the QE2 and the pool that was on the bottom deck, it's similar, but of course modern day standard and much easier to get to!
Just one little tip for the gents; you can hire formal wear on board. $85.00 USD for a full outfit for one night or you can rent it in sectors, but to be honest, if you were going to do that you'd be better off to buy it as the suit was only $225.00 USD! But at least you know if you need to, you can.
Would I cruise on her again, yes I would.
