No doubt some of you would have seen the 7.30 Report last night on the growing cruise industry and the challenges the port infrastructure faces. To be honest, I was embarrassed. I myself have been into the Brisbane port on a luxury ship, not in the rain like Queen Victoria, but none the less, not a great experience. Now Brisbane and Australia are paying the price for such a shambles with Cunard announcing that Brisbane has now been dropped from Queen Vic's itinerary next year. The Queensland Government has had proposal after proposal for a cruise terminal for the Gold Coast or surrounding areas. I was lucky enough to see one of those and the terminal would have been fantastic for the area and the cruise passenger. The cruise lines are building more ships and the American economy is slowing down so they have to send them somewhere. When you have every Asian capital city building new cruise terminals, it's not hard to work out where they'll take them. If Australia is going to benefit from the booming industry, we have to spend some of the 20 Billion dollars we have sitting in the coffers!
