Well as predicated, the world is falling apart and the US bail out has not helped at all and in fact, it may have made it worse with a financial crisis not seen since the great depression. After the Federal Reserve dropped interest rates by 1%, our dollar has weakened and as I write this, the Aussie dollar is climbing back from overnight lows of .65 to at .6679 against the USD at the moment, but of course, it's all subject to change.
I was telling you in June and July this year when the Aussie was at record levels, if you had booked or were looking at a cruise based on USD, to pay it in full. I've been through this many times over the years but of course, when the dollar drops as much as it has, it makes a huge difference to pricing. This only applies to cruises based on USD. We are very fair and our system re-prices all cruises on our website everyday, up or down.
Now when you book a cruise through us based on USD, we tell you both in our invoicing and it's on all our products that it's subject to currency fluctuations which is out of our control. We have people abusing us because the dollar has dropped, how is that our fault? It's not and in fact, I don't appreciate people calling here abusing my staff about it. Take responsibility for your own actions, we give you the tools up front to let you know that it's based on USD. Unfortunately, we do not have time to call everyone that has booked a cruise based on USD. I do mention it in our newsletter when appropriate which is all we can do.
Like I've said in the past and I'll say it again, if you have a cruise based on USD and you are happy with the price, if you can, pay it in full at the time of booking. Then there are no changes. If that's not an option for you, and I understand not everyone is in that position, take note and keep an eye on the news or the paper of the currency. Last but by no means least, the rate you see on TV or the paper is not the rate at which anyone can buy it, it's usually at least 1 cent lower. The day you see it at say .70, go into the bank or foreign exchange bank and see what you can buy it for and I bet it's not .70.
Anyway, now that I have that off my chest and please don't take offence, it's something we all have to deal with at the moment, a changing world that many of us has never seen and, who knows where it will finish. Please keep in mind we are only here to sell cruise holidays and bring you the best deals on a daily basis which we love doing!
