One of our POSH Club members, John Slater came to me a few years back and asked if I could help out with some details or photos of Silver Cloud he was having trouble getting, particularly around the public areas, which are hard to come by if you're not on board. It just so happend the ship was coming to Sydney and of course we had been invited on. So, I provided John with some much needed photos and three years later, look what he has produced! It is just amazing what you have done John, you must be so proud and not to mention, have a garage most men would be envious of!
John is a member of the Australian scale model ship association Task Force 72, so it was only natural for him to contemplate building a cruise ship. The ship has been built to an exact scale of 1/72, meaning it's one 72nd the size of the real Silver Cloud, where each 6 feet of the real cruise ship is represented in each inch of model. It is 2.14 m long and was built using plans obtained in Italy, (whilst on a cruise) and photos.
The model is radio controlled and like the real Silver Cloud has two main engines and two bow thruster. These are electric and the battery supply on board allows the model to run at a speed of 2 knots for around 12 hours. The maximum speed of the model is 3 knots. The model is not yet finished with many features of her superstructure yet to be fitted out, and it has taken some 3 years to get to this stage.
